legendary Bridal Skin Timeline:

What To Do 12 Months to 1 Week Before Your Wedding

One of the most common questions my brides ask is:

“What should I be doing for my skin before the wedding?”

As a bridal makeup artist, I can create beautiful makeup looks, but the truth is makeup will only ever look as good as the skin it’s applied to. Makeup can enhance, soften and glow-boost your complexion, but it can’t completely fix underlying skin concerns.

The good news is that with a little planning and the right guidance, achieving healthy, radiant skin for your wedding day is completely achievable.

This simple timeline will help you understand what to focus on and when, whether you’re a year away from your wedding or counting down the final weeks.

12 Months Before Your Wedding

Build the Foundations of Healthy Skin

If you’re starting your wedding prep around a year in advance, this is the perfect time to focus on building a consistent skincare routine.

You don’t need an overwhelming routine — just the basics done well.

Focus on:

  • A gentle cleanser

  • A gentle exfoliant and a good moisturiser

  • Daily SPF

  • Drinking plenty of water

  • Regular sleep and stress management

Consistency is far more important than trying lots of new products.

If you have specific skin concerns such as acne, pigmentation or texture, this is also the ideal time to seek professional guidance from a dermatologist or facialist who can create a tailored plan.

Professional treatments work best when your skin has time to respond, so starting early always leads to the best results.

Professional Skin Support for Brides

For brides who want a little extra support with their skin, I often recommend Skin Health Studio, based in Fenstanton, run by renowned skin expert and educator Rachel Stevens.

Rachel has trained therapists at luxury destinations including Liberty London and Selfridges and brings a wealth of skin health expertise to every treatment.

Her approach combines advanced technology, results-driven products and the restorative power of touch — creating a space where women can reconnect with themselves, rebuild confidence and achieve their healthiest skin.

Together we’ve created exclusive bridal skin programmes available only to my brides. These are completely personalised plans designed to strengthen, calm and glow-boost the skin in time for your wedding day.

They’re not off-the-shelf treatments — they’re carefully designed programmes combining targeted facials, professional homecare and skin-supporting supplements to help your skin look its absolute best.

Because at the end of the day: your makeup will only look as good as your skin feels.

Whether you’re preparing a year ahead or only have a few weeks before your wedding, there are options to support your skin journey.

6 Months Before Your Wedding

Focus on Skin Health and Maintenance

Six months before your wedding is when your skincare routine should start to feel familiar and consistent.

This can be a great time to introduce:

  • Regular professional facials

  • Hydrating treatments

  • Gentle exfoliation

  • Professional brow shaping

Many brides also like to try treatments such as LVL lash lifts or brow lamination at this stage. If you’re considering these, it’s always worth trying them well before the wedding so you know whether you love the result.

One small but important tip I always mention to my brides is to be mindful of tan lines.

Things like sports bras, swimsuit straps, flip flops or even Apple Watch straps can leave marks that may show depending on your dress and photographs.

Wearing SPF daily and being mindful of straps can help avoid this.

3 Months Before Your Wedding

Finalise Your Bridal Beauty Plan

Around three months before the wedding is when many of my brides come in for their bridal makeup trial.

This is when we refine your wedding day look and discuss anything that might affect how your makeup sits on the day.

By this point, the key focus should be consistency. If your skin is happy, try not to introduce too many new products or treatments.

If you’re considering cosmetic treatments such as Botox or filler, I always recommend doing this well in advance of your wedding. It’s best not to try anything for the first time within the final three months before your big day, just to give your skin time to settle.

1 Month Before Your Wedding

Avoid Experimenting

With one month to go, the goal is to keep your skin calm, hydrated and balanced.

This isn’t the time to start experimenting with brand new skincare or intensive treatments.

Instead, focus on:

  • Gentle cleansing

  • Hydrating moisturisers or serums

  • Light exfoliation only if your skin is used to it

  • Drinking plenty of water

  • Lip care and hydration

If you're short on time but want a glow boost, Rachel at Skin Health Studio also offers a one-month bridal glow programme designed to restore moisture, strengthen the skin barrier and create a beautiful hydrated finish ready for makeup.

1 Week Before Your Wedding

Maintenance Mode

In the final week before your wedding, we’re officially in maintenance mode.

Your skin should already be feeling healthy and balanced, so the most important thing now is keeping things calm and predictable.

Avoid:

• Trying new skincare products• Strong exfoliation• New treatments your skin isn’t used to

If you’re planning beauty appointments, I usually recommend:

  • Brows – around 5 to 7 days before

  • Lash lift or tint – about a week before

  • Spray tan – around 2 days before the wedding

  • Nails – 1 to 2 days before

If you choose to have a spray tan, remember that fake tan can sometimes dry the skin slightly, so keeping your skin well moisturised afterwards will help your makeup sit beautifully.

The Most Important Bridal Skin Advice

The best bridal skin isn’t about perfection.

It’s about skin that feels healthy, calm and well looked after.

When your skin is hydrated and balanced, makeup sits beautifully and photographs perfectly.

If you're one of my brides and you're unsure about skincare, treatments or timing ahead of your wedding, you’re always welcome to ask — I’m very happy to help guide you.

After all, my goal is for you to feel relaxed, confident and glowing on your wedding morning.

Love, Becky x
